    Sweat and heat

Jason and Lucia visibly sweat while dancing, lifting weights or fighting.

  • ReportedAn Extended Look

    Character switching

When Jason and Lucia are together, you can swap between them instantly, even mid-drive or mid-fight. When they are apart, switching uses a fast sky-camera transition similar to GTA V. IGN says switching may be disabled at some story points.

  • ReportedAn Extended Look

    Seat swapping and passenger shooting

In a shared car you can let the other character drive, and during chases choose to shoot from the passenger seat. An Extended Look shows this during the Raul getaway.

    Interaction wheel / context prompts

Holding the aim trigger with a gun holstered brings up context options for people and animals, much like Red Dead Redemption 2. The options are greet and taunt, plus defuse or provoke when someone is hostile.

    Criminal Profile

A behaviour tracker that GTA VI uses in place of Red Dead Redemption 2’s Honor system. Repeated, needless violence shifts your profile, as can small good deeds such as binning rubbish. In An Extended Look, petting a dog triggers a positive-karma prompt. Violence a mission requires does not count. Rockstar says the profile can affect how the world reacts and how the story plays out.

    Relationship system

Jason and Lucia start out wanting a romance, but whether it develops depends on time spent together outside missions. Activities that help include shopping, salons, exercise, minigames and robberies. You can hold hands with a trigger press and hold doors for each other. Romance is optional and gives no gameplay bonuses.

    Body changes: weight, muscle, sleep

Eating restores health but overeating adds weight. Gym work builds muscle. Rockstar told Dazed that long stretches without sleep visibly change the characters’ faces.

  • ReportedRockstar preview / Ultimate Edition

    Fences for stolen goods

Stolen jewellery and cars are sold to fences. Damaged cars fetch less money.

    Choices with consequences

IGN reports that small decisions add up and some big choices bring immediate change, with the story designed to support replays. Dexerto says the game uses RDR2-style chapters, and Rockstar’s store listing says Ultimate Edition items are uncovered chapter by chapter.

    Weapon wheel

Each protagonist has a quick, minimal weapon wheel. You can also grab weapons dropped by enemies mid-fight.

    Outfit and accessory wheel

Before a robbery, the player flips from the weapon wheel to a clothing wheel to put on a mask. Masks, glasses and hats can be swapped on the fly.

Police hidden from minimap; Focus mode

Police no longer appear on the minimap. A Focus view highlights cops and useful items in the world.

    3D minimap

The minimap shows buildings and structures as 3D models.

    Satellite-style pause map

IGN says the pause-screen map uses detailed satellite-style imagery rather than a simple street plan.

    Phone as a physical object

When Jason or Lucia takes out the phone, the camera zooms in on it in their hand rather than showing a HUD overlay.

Police and wanted level

  • ReportedAn Extended Look

    Six-star Wanted level

The sixth Wanted star returns. IGN says one star is easy to shake, while three or more in the city can force you to flee on foot through alleys.

Sources: Push Square · IGN · TechRadar · Kotaku

  • ReportedAn Extended Look / Rockstar preview

Witness-based Wanted system with suspect description icons

A crime is reported only if someone sees it or an alarm goes off. Icons under the stars show whether police know your face, clothes, vehicle and whether you are a couple. Stars appear hollow when police have no description, and hot zones stay marked on the map until they cool down.

Shaking the police: disguises, vehicle swaps and splitting up

To lose heat you can change your whole outfit, cut your hair, switch vehicles or have the couple split up. Wearing a mask during a crime can stop a description from being recorded, even on CCTV. The Raul getaway shows the crew burning the car and switching to a van.

Combat

  • ReportedAn Extended Look

    Slow-motion aiming with weak points

Jason can slow time using a meter, Dead Eye style. Enemies then show red (lethal) and yellow (non-lethal) target areas such as the head, hands and knees.

    Sources: TechRadar · Push Square · GamesRadar+ · Dexerto · Kotaku

  • ReportedAn Extended Look / Rockstar preview

    Non-lethal takedowns and disarming

Shooting arms or legs incapacitates enemies, and an accurate shot can knock a gun from their hand. The hit marker flashes yellow for non-lethal hits.

    Quick-time events

Some melee moments and actions such as using a slim jim use timed button prompts. In one, Lucia gets a choice of moves and drives her heel into an attacker.

  • ReportedAn Extended Look / Rockstar interview

    Carried loot and physical inventory

Loot bags exist as physical objects carried on the body. Lucia fires one-handed while laden with bags. Rockstar told Dazed that open-carrying a rifle in public will draw reactions.

Vehicles

Tiered car theft: slim jim, key cloner, trackers

Parked cars are sorted into security tiers. Older cars open with a slim jim or a smashed window, while prestige cars need a key cloner that unlocks later in the story. Some cars carry trackers that alert police if you drive slowly. Occupied cars can still be carjacked the classic way.
